Kids who love dogs and grown-up puppet collectors get a marionette that walks and trots with a little practice, and the strings detach for tangle-free storage.

Design and craft

Soft yarn forms the body, the head and the fluffy husky coat, so the puppet feels gentle in small hands. Wooden feet add weight at the bottom of each leg, which helps the dog stand and gives each step a soft tap on the floor. The result looks handmade and warm, closer to a folk craft than a plastic toy.

Detachable strings solve the classic marionette problem. Clip them back on and the husky is ready to perform again.

Specifications

Brand: Artisan Owl

Character: Siberian husky dog

Size: 9.8 x 7.2 x 2.4 inches

Body: soft yarn

Feet: wood

Strings: detachable

Color: black

Playing and storing

Hold the control bar level and tip it forward to make the husky walk. Lift one side to raise a paw, and give a quick shake to make it trot. Kids pick up the basic moves in a few minutes and then invent their own tricks, from begging for a treat to a full sled-dog race across the living room rug.

Puppet shows at a birthday, a story time with a dog book or a classroom lesson about sled dogs all give the husky a role. For a family with a real husky at home, the marionette makes a fun gift that looks like the family pet.

After play, detach the strings and lay the puppet flat in a drawer or a box. Brush loose fibers off the yarn with your hand and keep it away from damp places so the wooden feet stay in good shape.
