Jack Richeson fills this set with six fluorescent colors for art rooms, homeschool tables and kids who like bright color. Each cake covers as much paper as a 10.0 oz bottle of liquid.

Specifications

Jack Richeson tempera paint cakes with tray

Set of 6 assorted fluorescent colors

Each cake measures 1-11/16 inches in diameter and 5/8 inch thick

Covering ability equal to a 10.0 oz bottle of liquid tempera

Meets ACMI certification standards for non-toxicity

Why cakes beat bottles in a classroom

Liquid tempera needs cups, pouring and a cleanup that eats the last ten minutes of class. A cake sits in its tray, takes a wet brush, and goes back on the shelf. Nothing tips over. Kids control how much pigment they pick up by how wet the brush is, which teaches a little about paint handling without a lecture. Six fluorescent shades cover posters, science fair boards and anything meant to stand out.

The set meets Art and Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) certification standards for quality and non-toxicity, which matters when the tray goes to a kindergarten group.

Use and care

Wet the brush, swirl it on the cake until it loads with color, and paint on construction paper, cardstock or poster board. Rinse between colors to keep the fluorescents clean. Lay out the six colors in a row and let students mix a little on a palette to see how the hues combine. A single cake goes a long way, since each one covers like a 10.0 oz bottle of liquid tempera. After the session, let the tray air dry before you put it away. When a color wears down to the tray, the rest of the set keeps working.

Find more kids' paint sets and art supplies at Big Frenchies.
