- Scientific Name: Leporacanthicus galaxias.
- Origin: Native to the Amazon and Orinoco River basins in South America.
- Territorial: Like many armored catfish, they are territorial and can become aggressive towards conspecifics (similar fish), especially when it comes to establishing territory, though they are generally peaceful with different species.
- Bottom Dweller: They spend most of their time on the aquarium floor, scavenging for food.
- Tank Size: A minimum tank of 50 gallons is recommended to house this fish.
- Habitat: A planted aquarium with rocks, driftwood, and dense vegetation provides a healthy environment and hiding spaces to reduce stress.
- Water: Stable water parameters are crucial, and high aeration is beneficial.
- Carnivorous: The Galaxy Pleco is a carnivorous fish and needs a high-protein diet.
- Food: A varied diet of sinking carnivore pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, and tubifex is recommended.
