Why a wooden sudoku board game works for learners
New players start on the 4x4 grid, where only four numbers need placing. Once that clicks, they move up to 6x6 and then to the full 9x9 board. The difficulty in each puzzle depends on how many clues the book gives, so the later pages ask for longer chains of logic. Tiles carry colors as well as numbers. A younger child can solve by matching colors first and learn the digits along the way.
Mistakes cost nothing here. You set down a tile, see it break a row, and flip it or swap it. Paper sudoku ends up smudged after a few erasures, while this board stays clean for the next game. Two people can solve together by passing the book back and forth and talking through each move.
Setup and storage
Open the drawer, pick a puzzle from the book and lay the starting clue tiles on the board. Fill in the rest one square at a time. When you finish, slide every tile back into the drawer and close it. The drawer keeps the pieces together on a shelf or in a bag, which makes the game easy to bring to a cabin weekend, a waiting room or a grandparent's house. Keep loose tiles away from toddlers who still put things in their mouths.
