How to teach a child to use a yo-yo
Stand the child up and let the string hang to the floor with the yo-yo resting there. Cut the string so it reaches just above their belly button, then tie a slip knot loop around the middle finger. Wind the string around the axle and hold the yo-yo palm up. Have them drop it with a gentle flick, then turn the palm down and pull up as it reaches the bottom. Practice in short sessions outside or in an open room away from windows and lamps. Show them how to rewind the string by hand when it tangles, and keep a spare string handy for older kids who start trying new moves.
