How you work the case
Start with the case file. Read the police reports online, note the suspects and decide what the evidence needs to prove. Then put on the safety gear and move to the lab table.
Dust the evidence item with the brush and powder until the latent print appears. Lift it with the tape and compare it against the fingerprint exemplars from each suspect. Loops, whorls and arches start to tell you who touched what. Next, run the presumptive blood test on the fabric sample to see whether the stain is blood. The kit uses synthetic blood for this test.
Each result narrows the list. By the end, you have to make the call and name the killer. The kit suits a family puzzle night, a homeschool forensic unit or a teen who reads every detective novel on the shelf.
Work at a table you can wipe down, since fingerprint powder spreads. Keep the leftover supplies in the box for a second look at the evidence or to show a friend how the case came together.
