How a young detective works
Pick a surface, puff powder over it with the bellows and watch a hidden print appear. Press a transparent sticker over the print, peel it up and fix it to a collection card. Then roll each suspect's fingers on the ink pad and onto a file card, and compare the loops and whorls under the magnifier until you find the match.
The glasses add a spy angle. A back mirror lets a child look for more details while they collect evidence. Kids set up a mock crime scene, secure it, document footprints and prints, and write up who did it, which builds the habits of observation and record keeping that science class asks for.
The instructions are easy to follow. The kit teaches how to locate hidden prints on doorknobs, tables, glasses and phones around the house. The kit makes a Halloween or Christmas gift that gets used past the holiday. Powder is messy, so work over a tray, and wash hands after a session.
