Why a flat plastic disc matters
A base keeps a figure upright on the table, gives you a surface to texture with sand and flock, and sets the footprint the game rules measure from. Plastic takes glue, primer and paint the way the figure does, and a 4 mm thickness has enough edge to pick the model up without touching the paint. Forty bases cover a squad, a cavalry unit or a full warband. Each disc is brand new, 40 mm across and 4 mm thick, which gives a clean, even footprint for gaming miniatures and table games.
The 40 mm size suits larger infantry, monsters and mounted figures. Drop to 25 or 32 mm for standard troops, or up to 50 mm for a big character.
Prepping the bases
Wash the round miniature bases in warm soapy water to remove mold release, then dry them before you glue. Super glue or plastic cement both hold a figure to the disc. Texture the top with sand or paste before priming, and paint the rim last. Store spares in a zip bag so the next unit has bases ready. A thin disc like this also makes a good footing for display figures that never see a table.
