The Roorkee Instruments etched brass kaleidoscope is a handcrafted keepsake for a son, grandson, daughter or anyone who likes classic optical toys. Two brass wheels filled with colored glass beads turn to create patterns, and a hardwood stand lets it sit on a desk or shelf between uses.
Etched floral barrel and bead wheels
Artisans in India acid-etch a floral pattern into the brass barrel, then finish it with a black patina and lacquer that bring out the warm metal tone. Each piece reflects careful handwork.
Hold it to your eye and turn the wheels one at a time. A three-mirror system inside reflects the moving beads into a symmetrical mandala that changes with every turn.
