What kids puzzle play mats add to a playroom
A baby who rolls, crawls and pulls to stand needs a surface that gives a little. Foam tiles soften small tumbles, keep the baby off dust and grit and protect the floor underneath from dropped toys. Bright colors catch a young child's eye during floor time. Older kids join in by snapping the pieces together themselves, which works hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills.
The tiles also build more than a flat mat. Stack and join them into boxes, cubes and forts, then take them apart again. Grown-ups can borrow a few tiles for yoga or floor exercise. Letters on the set help a preschooler start to recognize the alphabet while they play.
How do you clean and set up the mat?
Lay the tiles out in the space you want, press the edges together until they lock and add borders around the outside for a straight finish. The pieces are light, so you can lift the whole mat and move it from the nursery to the living room in a few minutes. To clean, wipe the foam with a damp cloth and mild soap, then let it air dry. Because the tiles are waterproof, spilled milk or juice wipes off without soaking in. Check the floor for small loose items before baby play time, since the set includes a small ball.
