A kids helmet and pad set covers a child from age 5 to 12 for bike, skateboard and scooter rides in one box. The helmet adjusts with a turn knob at the back and breathes through 12 vents, and the knee, elbow and wrist guards strap on with elastic bands and hook and loop tape. A black storage bag keeps all seven pieces together.

How it fits and wears
Set the helmet on your child's head, turn the knob at the back until it sits snug, and buckle the strap under the chin. The shell weighs little, so a kid does not feel it after the first block. Twelve vents move air through on a summer ride. The light weight keeps the helmet from feeling heavy, and the adjustable straps let you fine tune the fit.
Each pad has elastic belts and hook and loop straps, so it fits over a t-shirt in July and over a sweatshirt in December. Thick foam inside the pads cushions a fall, and the lining is breathable.
After the ride, everything goes into the black bag. Mesh on the pads does not show dirt, and the bag keeps the set from scattering across the garage. Choose pink for a child who wants bright gear, or red. Check the fit again every few months, since a child's head and limbs grow fast at this age.
