How your family uses the alphabet play mat
Lay the tiles in a grid and lock the edges together. Add the borders around the outside and you have a finished mat about 71.5 by 71.5 inches. That size fits a nursery corner, a living room or a daycare play area. Foam gives a cushioned surface for a baby who is learning to lie, crawl, sit and walk, and it takes the edge off small bumps.
As your child grows, the mat turns into a learning tool. Each letter and number pops out of its tile, and kids can fit the shapes back in like a puzzle. Ask them to find the first letter of their name or to line up the numbers in order. Bright colors keep the game fun, and the activity builds logic, coordination and reasoning. You can also join tiles into boxes and cubes for a fort.
The mat suits messy play too. Kids can paint or work with play dough on it, and the stain resistant foam wipes clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. The foam is free of phthalates, lead and heavy metals, and the maker states it meets ASTM, CPSIA and US Toy Safety standards.
