Details
Unpainted nesting dolls hand you the traditional matryoshka shape with nothing on it, so the design is yours. MAGIKON crafts this five-piece set from natural wood, sands each doll smooth and leaves the surface ready for acrylics, markers or stain. The largest doll stands 5 inches tall. Crafters, families planning a painting afternoon and anyone making a personal gift are the buyers.
What's in the box
- 5 unpainted wooden nesting dolls
- Largest doll 5 inches tall
- Each doll sanded and ready to decorate
How to decorate them
Separate the dolls, lay them out from biggest to smallest, and sketch a plan in pencil. A family set is the classic approach: paint each doll as a relative, from grandparent down to the baby. Acrylic paint covers the bare wood, markers give crisp lines for faces and patterns, and wood stain shows the grain for a more natural finish. Seal with a clear coat when you are done, let it dry overnight, and the set nests again.
Painting parties take well to this kit. Each guest gets a doll from the set, or each guest gets a full set, and the table stays busy for a couple of hours. Kids paint their favorite animals, teens go for patterns, and grandparents end up painting the grandkids.
The nesting design carries its own meaning, one figure held inside the next, which is why finished sets show up as wedding gifts, new-baby gifts and keepsakes for a family reunion. Write the date and the painter's name inside the base of the largest doll so the story travels with the set.
Store finished dolls nested and out of direct sun so the colors stay bright. Blank dolls keep for years in a dry drawer until the next craft afternoon comes around.
