HG Art Concepts designed this jar with a pastel artist: you rub a soft pastel across a mesh screen to form a point or an edge, and the powder falls into the jar below for later use. Why artists switch from sanding pads
Sanding a pastel on a pad grinds away pigment you paid for and leaves it on the paper towel. Here the screen does the shaping and the jar does the saving. Collected powder goes onto a background with a pastel brush, a foam applicator, a solvent wash or a fingertip, so the dust from one painting becomes the underlayer of the next. Very little pigment goes to waste that way. A pointed pastel also gives you control for fine lines, lettering and detail work that a blunt stick cannot manage.
How to use and clean it
Unscrew the cap, lift out the top lid, and screw the top back on. Rotate the pastel against the wire mesh until it reaches the shape you want. When you finish, drop the lid back in and screw the cap down so the powder stays sealed until you need it. Tap the screen over the jar to clear loose pigment, and run the wire brush across the mesh when a color starts to build up. Keep separate jars for warm and cool colors if you want clean backgrounds, since mixed powder turns muddy.

- Returns are only available for US orders. International orders are final sale.
