A boy marionette gives a child a character to walk, dance and flop across the floor, and Bobby from Silly Puppets fills that role. He hangs about 24 inches from control bar to feet, with the puppet itself around 16 inches. Beginners, classroom drama corners and puppet-loving families are the audience.
Look and movement
Bobby is a peach-skinned boy. You hold a control bar above him and tilt it to move his limbs. Rock it side to side and he walks. Dip one end and he bows or waves. Lift the whole bar and he jumps. His mouth does not move, so his acting comes from posture and timing, which is how traditional marionettes work.
A child learns the basic walk in an afternoon and spends the following weeks inventing moves nobody showed them. Since the mouth does not move, kids learn to tell a story through movement alone, which is a good skill for any young performer. Pair Bobby with a narrator who reads the story aloud while the marionette acts it out. The pop-out pegs on the bar make Bobby a good first marionette.

Untangling and storage
Strings tangle, especially in the hands of a six-year-old. Silly Puppets fits the control bar with pegs that pop out, so you unhook a string, pass it through the knot, and pop the peg back in. No cutting and retying. Hang Bobby from a hook by his bar when the show is over, and the strings stay straight for the next performance. Wipe him with a damp cloth as needed.
