Why modelers use them
The nylon hinge rotates flexibly, and the hinge pin locks in place. Six holes on each side give maximum retention. The loose-leaf design also lets you mount accessories on two leaves and build a folding structure on larger models.
Each hinge is precision molded with a locking pin, which makes installation easy. They are mainly used to connect ailerons and elevators, and they suit small parts connected to a control surface.
How do you install them?
On KT foam board, cut a slot into both edges where the surfaces meet. Fill the slots with hot melt glue and push the hinge in. Once the glue sets, the hinge will not pull out. On a balsa airplane, bond the leaves directly with 502 glue. In both cases, keep glue off the hinge pin so the joint keeps moving.
Choose small, medium or large to suit the parts on your model. Test the movement by hand before you connect the servo linkage. Keep spare RC airplane nylon hinges in your field box for quick repairs after a hard landing or a crash.
