A 0.5x telescope focal reducer halves your scope's focal length so more sky fits in the eyepiece or camera frame. SVBONY builds this 1.25 inch reducer with two fully multi-coated glass elements in an all-metal cell. Backyard astronomers use it to frame large nebulae and star clusters that overflow a stock eyepiece.

What the reducer does for you
Cutting the focal length in half gives you a wider field of view. Visual observers gain a wider, lower-power view without buying a long focal length eyepiece. Imagers with CCD cameras get a larger patch of sky on the sensor, which helps when you are framing a comet or a wide star field.
Anti-reflection coatings on all air-to-glass surfaces increase contrast, for both visual observing and photography.
How you fit it
Thread the reducer onto the filter threads of a 1.25 inch eyepiece or onto the nosepiece of your camera adapter. Both ends carry the same 28.5 by 0.6 mm thread, so you can stack it ahead of a filter. Refocus after fitting; the inward focus travel changes once the reducer sits in the light path. Spacing between the reducer and the sensor sets the exact reduction, so try the reducer on the nosepiece first and move it closer to the camera if you want a stronger effect. Store it capped in a dry case between sessions.
Owners of long focal ratio scopes, such as Maksutovs and Schmidt-Cassegrains, gain the most from a reducer, since those designs start with narrow fields. Pair it with a low-power eyepiece for sweeping the Milky Way, or keep it on the camera for lunar mosaics and wide star fields.
