What a heavier fluid changes
A thicker fill makes the diff resist the speed difference between the two wheels, so more power reaches the outside tire on corner exit. On high-grip tracks and in front diffs that is often the feel drivers want. The trade is a car that pushes a little more on entry, which you can balance with a lighter fluid at the other end. Keeping both weights on the bench lets you tune in finer steps than one bottle allows.
The sticker on the lid matters more than it sounds. After a long day you will not remember which bottle went in which diff, and the label settles it. Keep the bottle with your other weights in a small box so the full range is on hand at the track.
Filling a diff
Pull the diff, clean out the old fluid, and check the gears and the O-rings for wear. Flip the cap and fill to the level in your manual, then rotate the gears by hand to work out trapped air. Thick fluid takes a minute to settle, so wait before you check the level again. Close the case, wipe the outside, and note the weight on your setup sheet. Snap the cap shut and store the bottle upright so grit stays out of the pour spout.
