Meet Farawee the Sheep, a gentle character inspired by the beloved tales of Syrian poet Suleiman Al-Issa, now brought to life by refugee artisans through the MADE51 by UNHCR initiative.
Hand-crocheted from organic cotton, Farawee’s soft curves and peaceful expression make her the embodiment of calm and comfort. Her name comes from the Arabic word for “cloud,” reflecting her fluffy texture and soothing presence. Each stitch tells a story — of culture preserved, resilience shared, and hope handmade.
Fun Fact: In many Syrian folktales, sheep symbolize kindness and wisdom — a reminder that gentleness can also be strength.
